Analytics Tracking
What are analytics tracking services?
Short answer
Analytics tracking services set up the measurement that shows which marketing produces paying customers. That means GA4 with calls, texts and forms tracked as key events, Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools for search and AI visibility, call tracking, and lead sources in your CRM, rolled into one monthly report you can read in five minutes.
Most small-business dashboards answer the wrong question. They show sessions and bounce rate, while the owner wants to know which phone calls came from Google, which came from the Map Pack, and whether AI tools are sending anyone at all.
We set up tracking around the actions that make you money, then report on those actions first.

Measuring AI search
How we track visibility in AI answers
There is no single dashboard for AI visibility yet, so we combine four sources.
| Source | What it shows | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console (AI reports) | Impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover AI features | Impressions only, no clicks, as of October 2026 |
| Bing Webmaster Tools (AI Performance) | Citations, grounding queries and topics where competitors are cited instead of you | Covers Microsoft’s AI experiences only |
| GA4 AI referral channel | Visits from chatgpt.com, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude | Can be undercounted, as the October ChatGPT bug showed |
| Monthly prompt log | Whether you are named for 20 real customer questions across the major AI tools | A sample, not a census; answers vary by person and place |
Known outage
From about October 8 to October 15, 2026, links from ChatGPT stopped carrying their tracking tag after the GPT-6 rollout, so many of those visits were counted as Direct in GA4. If your AI traffic dipped that week, annotate it rather than panic. How to fix your reporting →
How it works
Our tracking setup process
- Audit. We check what is installed, what fires, what double-counts and what is missing.
- Plan. We agree on the actions that matter: calls, texts, forms, bookings and any purchases.
- Implement. GA4, Tag Manager, Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and CRM connections are set up or repaired.
- Verify. We test every event on desktop and mobile and confirm it shows up correctly in reports.
- Report. You get a monthly scorecard and a live dashboard, with notes on anything unusual.
Have a question?
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need analytics tracking if I already have Google Analytics?
Installing GA4 is not the same as tracking leads. Out of the box it counts visits and pageviews. Calls, texts and form submissions have to be set up as events and marked as key events before you can see which marketing actually produced customers.
Can you track traffic from ChatGPT and other AI tools?
Yes, mostly. Visits from chatgpt.com, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude can be grouped into one AI channel in GA4. Some AI visits arrive without a referrer and show as Direct, so we pair GA4 with Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and a monthly prompt log.
Does Google Search Console show AI Overview traffic?
Since August 31, 2026, every site can see impressions from AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover’s AI features in Search Console. Clicks from those features are not broken out yet; Google has said reporting will evolve.
Do I need call tracking numbers?
Not always. Tap-to-call tracking in GA4 covers website callers for free. Dedicated tracking numbers help when you also want to measure offline sources, Google Business Profile calls or individual ad campaigns.
What will I see each month?
A one-page scorecard: leads by source and by service, top pages, search and AI visibility, what changed, and what we are doing next. No jargon and no vanity metrics.
Is tracking included in your plans?
Yes. Lead tracking, conversion tracking and real-time lead delivery are part of every plan.
